BSF Jawan Attacked by Smugglers in Tripura, Sustains head Injuries

In a shocking incident on the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura, a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was brutally attacked by smugglers on Friday morning.

The jawan, identified as Harish Chandra Pandey of the 150th Battalion stationed at Kalsimura Border Outpost (BOP), was injured near Gate 189 of the Kalsimura Dudhpukur border area while attempting to prevent an illegal smuggling operation.

Riyaz had tied a rope through the gate to facilitate the smuggling operation. Acting swiftly, the BSF jawan tried to intervene and stop the illegal activity.

When the smuggling attempt was thwarted, Riyaz, along with his younger brother Rifat, father Momin, and mother, launched a vicious attack on the jawan.

Reportedly, Riyaz struck Pandey on the head with a piece of wood, causing a severe head injury and profuse bleeding.

The attackers reportedly intended to kill the jawan, but Pandey, in self-defense, fired a warning shot from his service rifle into the air.

The sound of the gunfire drew the attention of nearby locals, who rushed to the scene, helping to diffuse the situation.

Pandey was later assisted by local social worker Babul Mia, who transported him to the Boxnagar Social Health Center.

After receiving initial treatment, Pandey was referred to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala, where doctors treated him for his head injury, which required more than nine stitches.

Local authorities were immediately alerted, and Kalmchoura police arrived at both the scene and the hospital to investigate the matter.

A manhunt has been launched for Riyaz, his father Momin, and his brother Rifat, all of whom fled their home shortly after the attack.

The BSF has lodged a formal complaint against the attackers, including Riyaz's mother, who was also involved in the assault.

Local sources said, Riyaz Mia is a known criminal in the area with a history of involvement in various illegal activities, including sugar smuggling, cattle theft, human trafficking, and Rohingya refugees intrusion.

Despite having been imprisoned several times, Riyaz has continued his involvement in unlawful activities, leaving the border area in a state of fear.
