Bye-Election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat will be held on September 3 and the counting of votes will be held on the same day. The seat was represented by Biplab Kumar Deb. The bye-election was necessitated due to election of Deb to the 18th Lok Sabha.
According to a press note issued by the Election Commission, notifications for the poll will be issued on August 14 and last date of submission of nominations is August 21. Scrutiny of the nominations will be held on August 22 and the last date of withdrawal of candidatures has been announced as August 26.
In total bye-polls to 12 vacant Rajya Sabha seats spreading over total nine States will be held on September 3. Out of the total 12 vacant RS seats, 2 seats each are from Assam, Bihar and Maharastra while one seat each from Tripura, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Odisha.
While last date of nomination submission is same (August 21) for all the seats across the nine State, the last date nomination withdrawal is August 26 for Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Maharastra and Tripura while the last date of the same is August 27 for Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, Telangana and Odisha.
