Cong-CPIM understanding in Tripura not to impact State Assembly poll outcomes: Assam CM

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma asserted that BJP would return to power with more seats compared to 2018 Assembly elections.

He also said the seat sharing understanding between Congress and CPIM will not impact the poll results.

Sharma took part in a door-to-door campaign in 79 Tila under 6-Agartala Constituency for BJP's Papiya Dutta on Saturday. Earlier, Bollywood star Mithun Chakraborty held a roadshow in support of Dutta at Indranagar under the same constituency today.

BJP's Tripura Pradesh general secretary Papia Dutta is campaigning hard against her Congress rival Sudip Roy Barman in 6-Agartala Assembly Constituency.

While Dutta is carrying out extensive outreach programme in the constituency along with party activists, the campaign momentum got a further boost on Saturday after Mithun Chakraborty's road show and BJP's heavyweight leader, also Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sharma went around the households in 79 Tila urging people to support Papia Dutta.

"Humbled by the warmth of the people as they welcomed me enthusiastically while on a door-to-door visit to 79 Tilla and other localities in Agartala.

Seeing the fervour, I'm convinced that the people will once again elect BJP Tripura to office", Himanta Biswa Sharma said.

The Assam Chief Minister asserted that BJP would return to power with more seats compared to 2018 Assembly elections.

Knowing that defeating Sudip Roy Barman in 6-Agartala is difficult proposition but not impossible, BJP is firing from all guns to secure a victory.

In June 2022 by-polls, BJP candidate Dr Ashok Sinha was defeated by Roy Barman - the by election was necessitated after Roy Barman quit the MLAship and BJP to join Congress.

This time, not just the Congress supporters, CPIM - Congress and CPIM formed seat sharing understanding and supporting each other as per the understanding - activists also have thrown its weight behind Roy Barman.

The battle is tough, but BJP is leaving no stone unturned. The saffron camp is constantly in touch with the voters as the booth level workers are determined to give Roy Barman a run for his money.

Participation of Himanta Biswa Sharma in door-to-door campaign is also politically significant which is expected to give a moral blow to BJP's opponents.
