Covid Vaccination in Tripura: 16 to 18 percent population covered

Tripura has covered 16 to 18 percent of the total population as per the data under the nationwide vaccination drive running all across the country.

The state has also maintained a wastage percentage of 2 to 3 percent in comparison to the national average that stands at anywhere around 5 to 6 percent, NHM Mission Director Siddhartha Shiv Jaiswal told reporters on Tuesday.

According to the NHM MD, vaccination drive in Tripura has been conducted quite successfully.

"We have targeted 48,000 healthcare workers in the first phase. A total of 92 percent of them have been administered the first dose and the second dose is given to 82 percent. Similarly in the field level workers that target has been set to around 65,000. Here also 92 percent get the first dose and 70 percent have received the second dose", said Jaiswal adding that a special drive for vaccination would be undertaken on April 09 and 10 next.

During those days, 50 session sites would be opened for vaccination within the Agartala Municipal Corporation areas and once again people would be mobilized through field workers like Ward secretary and ASHA workers.

Speaking about the earlier special drive, he said, "in three days, 2.26 lakhs beneficiaries have been administered the vaccine doses that accounts 80,000 people each day. As per the elections data people of 40 percent of vulnerable age groups--above 60 years of age and 45 to 59 with comorbid conditions, had been vaccinated so far".

The total numbers of people living in Tripura stand at 3.49 lakhs (above 60) and 7.67 lakhs (45 to 49) respectively.

"As a whole 16 to 18 percent of the whole population had been already vaccinated whereas nationally states were struggling to touch the 6 to 7 percent mark", said Jaiswal.

On the storage, he said, "Tripura has 3 lakh doses stored and more 8 lakhs doses will reach the state within this month".
