Covid19 returns in Tripura: Five found positive in last 2 days in Unakoti District

Unakoti district in the northeastern state of Tripura has reported a resurgence of Covid-19, with five people testing positive for the virus in the last two days.

Meantime, the report of Covid infection has created panic among the residents of the district, which had not reported any Covid-19 cases in the recent past.

The first case was reported on April 15 when two individuals from Nabinchhera in Pecharthal during their visit to the Panisagar sub-divisional Hospital for medical services tested positive for Covid-19. A third individual also found Covid positive in the same Hospital and on the same day. One of the three who tested positive had a travel history. However, the remaining two individuals did not have any such record. Following this, the district health authorities began contact tracing and testing of close contacts.

On April 17, two more people from the Nabinchhera area tested positive for the virus, taking the total number of Covid-19 infected individuals in the district to five.

In view of the present situation, District Surveillance Officer of Unakoti, Dr. Sankha Subhra Debnath advised people to strictly adhere to Covid-19 protocols to prevent the risk of infection.

He said, the infected individuals were placed in home isolation, and the district health department is providing them with necessary medical treatment.

The authorities have also conducted a mock drill this month to deal with Covid-19, as directed by the Government of India. The higher authorities, including the District Magistrate, have been informed of the current situation, Dr Debnath commented.

The resurgence of Covid-19 in Unakoti district highlights the need for continued vigilance and adherence to Covid-19 protocols, including wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and washing hands regularly.

The health authorities have appealed to the public to get tested at the nearest health centre if they develop any symptoms of Covid-19.

The situation in Unakoti district is a reminder that the Covid-19 pandemic is far from over, and that it is essential to remain vigilant and take precautions to prevent the further spread of the virus.
