A day after BJP won Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, CPIM Politburo leader and ex-Opposition leader of Tripura Manik Sarkar expressed concerns about the future of the INDIA alliance. He expressed his views while addressing a gathering at Agartala Town Hall during an event commemorating the birth anniversary of late CPIM) leader of Tripura Baidyanath Majumder. Sarkar voiced his doubts regarding the alliance's effectiveness in countering the BJP's electoral dominance.
"The BJP's victories in these three states were partly due to the inactivity of the INDIA alliance, which was formed with the primary goal of collectively fighting and defeating the BJP to safeguard the nation," Sarkar remarked.
He termed saffron victories, especially in Madhya Pradesh as unexpected.
Reacting on the ‘unexpected’ BJP triumph in Madhya Pradesh and its success in two other states, Sarkar noted, "The BJP's sweeping victories, especially in Madhya Pradesh, were unexpected. However, they capitalized on the inaction of the INDIA alliance."
Shifting from the national politics, the CPIM leader raked up several issues relating to Tripura and emphasized the need for an active role in addressing pertinent issues in Tripura, especially in light of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He urged for increased efforts in highlighting the failures of the BJP-led government in Tripura.
"As we confront critical challenges, it's imperative to strengthen our movement against prevailing issues in Tripura, particularly focusing on exposing the shortcomings of the BJP administration," Sarkar asserted.
"People of Tripura witnessed a gradual weakening of democracy and economic instability under the BJP's governance. It's crucial to intensify our efforts and voice against these concerns”, he commented.
Notably, CPIM will face tough situation, in fact existential crisis- in Tripura, if it fails to perform well in the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls. At present, CPIM has been relegated to the third position based on the strength in the State Assembly.
