Ex-Tripura CM Manik Sarkar Accuses BJP of 'Betraying' People, Criticizes Tipra Motha Party

At a public meeting held in Kailashahar in the Unakoti District, ex-Tripura Chief Minister and CPIM Politburo leader Manik Sarkar delivered a fiery speech, accusing the BJP government of pursuing anti-people policies and slamming the Tipra Motha party for ‘misleading’ people.

Manik Sarkar highlighted the deteriorating conditions under BJP rule, saying that the government has slashed wages under the MGNREGA scheme, discontinued fertilizer subsidies, and is attempting to dismantle the public ration system.

“Since coming to power, the BJP has consistently ignored the welfare of ordinary citizens. They have reduced critical subsidies, cut essential services, and left people struggling to make ends meet,” Sarkar said.

Reflecting on Tripura’s political history, he added, “The people of this state have endured Congress rule and monarchy for years before choosing the CPIM, which worked relentlessly for their welfare for 25 consecutive years. To date, no one will dare to question the achievements of the CPIM government.”

Manik Sarkar also took a sharp jab at the Tipra Motha party slammed the party for ‘misguiding’ the people for political gains.

ex-tripura CM slams BJP TIPRA MothaLeader of the Opposition and CPIM State secretary Jitendra Choudhury also addressed the gathering, launching sharp attacks on both the Congress and BJP. He reminded the public that in the 2023 Assembly elections, CPIM had strategically supported Congress candidate Birajit Sinha in Kailashahar to defeat the BJP. Choudhury emphasized that without the unwavering support of CPIM workers, Congress could not have achieved victory.

“Congress secured victory in Kailashahar and also took control of the Gournagar Panchayat Samiti with our support, yet they have now turned against us, spreading false propaganda about CPIM. This betrayal shows Congress’s true character,” Choudhury remarked.

He also accused the Congress of indirectly helping the BJP in Kailashahar, much like the Tipra Motha party.

“Congress leaders are prioritizing their own interests while neglecting the common people, similar to what BJP leaders are doing in the Chandipur Panchayat Samiti,” he added.

Choudhury further criticized the Modi government for its anti-farmer stance, pointing out that despite demands from political parties and farmers to waive agricultural loans, the government continues to ignore their plight. “The central government has waived off loans worth Rs 17–18 lakh crore for a handful of capitalists but refuses to waive Rs 7–8 lakh crore of agricultural loans that could save struggling farmers,” he said.

Senior CPIM leaders, including former minister Tapan Chakraborty, Rajendra Reang, Unakoti District Committee Secretary Krishnendu Choudhury, and Sub-Division Committee Secretary Bishwaroop Goswami, were also present in the rally which was held to mark the commencement of the CPIM Kailashahar Sub-Division Committee’s two-day conference.
