Former MLA of Tripura succumbs to Covid19

Former MLA of Tripura and BJP leader Manoranjan Acharjee succumbed to Covid19 at GBP Hospital in Agartala on Sunday morning. He was 61 years old. Acharjee is survived by his wife, son, many relatives and Karyakartas of BJP.

Meanwhile, Covid19 death toll in Tripura increased to 245 with six more people died of the Coronavirus on Sunday (September 20). Total 654 persons were released from different Covid19 care centers across the State in last 24 hours. Recovery rate has jumped to 70.16 per cent on September 20 while it was 68.83 per cent on September 19. However, fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.11 per cent compared to September 19.

On demise of ex-MLA Manoranjan Acharjee, State BJP unit has expressed deep shock and condolence. State BJP president Dr Manik Saha expressed condolences to the family members at the demise of Manoranjan Acharjee. In his condolence message, Dr Saha said, the departed leader was a ‘Karma Yogi’ in true sense and he dedicated his life for the welfare of common people. Expressing sympathy and condolences to bereaved family members, Dr Saha said, all the Party leaders and workers are shocked and saddened and BJP will not forget the contributions of the departed leader.

In a press statement, BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee said, Manoranjan Bhattacharjee – BJP state committee member - played a leading role in serving the poorer section of the State after prevalence of Covid19 menace. He was involved in several activities till he was affected with Coronavirus.

In his political career, Acharjee was a two-time CPIM MLA representing Amarpur in the Gomati district. However, before his second term as MLA was ended, he got in touch with RSS which triggered ideological conflicts with the Leftists, BJP statement read.

“Erstwhile CPM party and Government raised several allegations against Manoranjan Acharjee. Later, he joined BJP after the Court acquitted him from the allegations”, Nabendu Bhattacharjee said.
