Fresh 176 covid positive cases detected in Tripura, but who cares !

Covid spike in Tripura continues as fresh 176 persons were found Covid positive. The positivity rate, as per Covid surveillance report as on July 13 morning, stands at 11.18 pc.

Even as 10 persons were recovered, number of active cases increased to 387 today – recovery rate is 98.71 pc. A total of 1574 samples were tested during the last 24 hours.

Among the fresh 176 positive cases, 107 were detected in West District followed by 32 in Sepahijala District. Total 17 persons were found Covid positive in Gomati while South Tripura District recorded 9 cases. Unakoti, North and Dhalai districts recorded 07, 03 and 01 cases respectively.

In view of the growing number of Covid cases in the State, Health department has already made mask wearing mandatory from Tuesday (July 12). Besides, the department has also urged people to undergo tests to avoid spreading the infection.

Pity, the order of wearing a mask failed to get a response from people. People were found mask-less in public places like markets, shopping malls etc. Irrespective of gender and age, most of the people are eschewing masks showing no concern about a potentially dangerous situation.

Not just common people, political leaders, police personnel and government officials are also roaming around without masks.

A peek at Kharchi Puja which drew large crowds this year and will come an end today revealed lack of concern and responsibilities by common men as well as guests.

With festive season is ensuing and Assembly polls are nearing, the Health Department will be in a tough situation. The onus for safety of public health will remain on common people and political leaders.

During the last TTAADC polls in 2021, it was observed that political parties – irrespective of colours – flaunted the Covid appropriate behaviour. A repetition of this will not just put public health in peril, also it will hamper the education of children, among other.
