Guwahati road tragedy: Assam Engineering College students meet fatal accident, 7 dead

Seven students from Assam Engineering College lost their lives in a tragic road accident that occurred in Guwahati. The incident took place in the early hours of Monday, according to local authorities. The students were traveling in a Scorpio vehicle, which veered out of control, crossed over a divider, and collided with a pick-up van coming from the opposite direction in the Jalukbari area.

Reports suggest that there were a total of ten students inside the rented Scorpio car at the time of the accident. Unfortunately, seven students died on the spot, while the remaining three were rushed to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in critical condition.

The victims have been identified as Arindam Bhallal from Guwahati, Niyor Deka from Golaghat district, Kaushik Mohan from Charaideo district, Upangshu Sarmah from Nagaon district, Rajkiran Bhuyan from Majuli district, Emon Gayan from Dibrugarh, and Kaushik Baruah from Mangaldoi.

Additionally, three individuals who were in the pick-up van that was struck by the Scorpio vehicle were also admitted to GMCH in critical condition. The bodies of the deceased students have been sent for autopsy, while fellow students from Assam Engineering College gathered at GMCH to mourn the tragic loss.

Expressing his condolences, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to share his sorrow. He expressed deep anguish over the loss of young lives and extended his heartfelt sympathies to the parents and families of the victims. The Chief Minister also assured that all necessary medical assistance is being provided to the injured individuals at GMCH.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the accident, and further details are awaited. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning as they come to terms with the loss of promising young lives. (Edited)
