As per the new initiative, the innovative farmers of the state will be practically imparting training to the farmers for better results, Agriculture Minister Pranajit Singha Roy said on Thursday.

“In Tripura, we have many innovative farmers, who have shown their talents breaking the glass ceiling. We have farmers who have brought crops like Apple, Dragon fruit and strawberry in Tripura. It is, indeed, a new dawn of farming for the state and to enlighten the entire farmers’ fraternity, we need them to lead the show. Thus, the agriculture department is thinking to conduct special training programmes under the supervision of innovative farmers”, said the Minister in a review meeting at Dhalai district.

Crops best suited for a soil must be given priority when the question of farming will arise. And, the village level coordination through Krisi Vigyan Kendras should be also enhanced, he added observing that penetration of technology and proper guidance would resolve all the problems.

As per the details placed by the officials, in Dhalai district the department has earmarked altogether 602.45 hectares of cropland for organic farming, where ginger, turmeric and pineapple will be cultivated. Moreover, a sizable number of farmers have been also helped through Fasal Bima Yojana and other welfare schemes.
