Unidentified miscreants attacked the ruling BJP office at Khumulwng in Tripura on Wednesday evening and reportedly fired four shots at a local BJP leader. However, the leader escaped unhurt.
The incident sparked panic and tension in the area.
Sources said, as the three-tier panchayat elections in Tripura approaching, the BJP office in the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Headquarters at Khumulwng, under the Takarjala assembly constituency, was attacked by a group of miscreants on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred when party activists were conducting a meeting in the party office.
BJP activists claimed that the attackers not only vandalized the office but also targeted BJP leader Ramananda Debbarma and fire four rounds of bullets at him.
Upon hearing about the incident, officers from Radhapur police station arrived at the scene.
During their initial investigation, police found four bullet casings in the vicinity on Thursday afternoon.
BJP leaders and police officials rushed to the damaged office to evaluate the destruction and assess the situation.
The incident has heightened tensions in the community, with ruling party leaders accusing opposition parties of orchestrating the attack and demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible.
