Mizoram University hosted G20 University Connect Programme

Second G20 University Connect Lecture Series for North East India on the theme “Engaging Young Minds” was held at Mizoram University (MZU) on Monday (6th March, 2023).

 

The programme was held in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, and Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) with Mizoram University. NETRA Foundation was the knowledge partner. 

 

A special lecture was delivered by Ambassador Lalduhliana Ralte, Former Diplomat, Government of India. He conveyed his wisdom and knowledge about the G20 Presidency, its diverse membership from economic and financial aspects to health, agriculture and sustainable development. 

 

He also enlightened the audience with the benefits of the event for India and Mizoram as a state. Digital transformation and friendly environmental related actions are crucial aspects highlighted in his speech as well as “common but differentiated responsibilities” that nations must undertake. 

 

He expressed the importance of India’s endeavour to find ways to improve and exchange best practices for sustainable development.

 

The Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor of Mizoram University, Prof. Pravakar Rath expressed his hearty gratitude for the success of the event. He expressed how great opportunity it was for Mizoram University to be a part of G20, and looks forward to future prospects regarding sustainable development.

 

The Guest of Honour, Prof. Lalnundanga, Registrar of MZU conveyed wonderful words of encouragement for the future. He highlighted the need to focus on climate change and renewable energy.

 

He also addressed the role to be played by the university. He further added that academics have the responsibility to contribute towards the sustainable development through research - to identify the problems, and to overcome by providing a solution.

 


Inaugural session was followed by Technical Session where six speakers expressed their views on different aspects related to G20. 


Prof. Vanlalchhawna, Finance Officer, MZU gave a lecture on the importance of investment in education of countries, specifically Australia, Canada, China, South Korea, India and United States of America.

 

He explained the role played by the government, public and private sectors in financing education.


Dr. Jayanta Choudhury, Head, Department of Rural Studies, Tripura University and Secretary, NETRA Foundation, cited the examples of India’s development cooperation towards other countries.

 

He highlighted the importance of localising Sustainable Development Goals. He urged and requested young scholars and faculties to explore topics related to SDGs in contributing towards the development of the North East Region.

 


Prof. H.K. Laldinpuii Fente, International Affairs, MZU gave her speech on the importance of internationalisation of the curriculum to expand knowledge both regionally and internationally.

 

She expressed the need to be knowledgeable and culturally sensitive while promoting Indian-based value education and promote our cultural heritage and knowledge internationally through cross-cultural research endeavours.


Prof K.V. Reddy, Head, Dept of Pol. Sc., MZU explained the importance of collaborative research aligned to the G20 summit, and its challenges amidst the undesirable circumstances in fulfilling prospects.


Prof. Loknath Mishra, Head, Dept. of Education, MZU lectured about the benefits of investment of positive outcomes in education by developed countries.

 

He spoke about the executions implemented by India in digitalization to ensure equity and affordability for free access and the impact of technology on global terms.


Prof. Lalnilawma, Head, E&RD, & Nodal Officer, NEP 2020, MZU & NETRA Representative, discussed safety measures of environment and sustainability to ensure oneness among humans, flora, fauna and all forms of life.

 

He highlighted the importance of collaboration and coordination with others in research and the need for awareness to be followed by action towards sustainable development.

 


Prof Srinibas Pathi, Senior Professor of Public Administration and Former Dean, School of Social Sciences, presided the programme and welcomed the dignitaries and attendees while Dr. Bidhu Kanti Das, Associate Professor, Department of Management Studies put the vote of thanks.
