Monitoring essential, says Tripura CM after a surprise visit in Agartala PWD office

In an attempt to have a ground level idea about prevailing work culture in government departments, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha who also holds PWD portfolio paid a surprise visit to Public Works Department (PWD) in the capital's Netaji Chowmuhani area on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking to the media after the visit, Dr Saha said he is not happy over the attendance of the staff. He said, "To implement the 'Prati Ghare Sushasan' prog, it is necessary to maintain the work culture of the employees since they deliver service"

“I am not happy. Many staff remained absent today. I talked to the staff and wanted to know about their problems – however, they could not tell me properly. Monitoring is necessary”, he told the reporters.

In reply to a query, the Chief Minister said PWD and such departments are service providers – so it is important people get proper services. He stressed for ‘monitoring’ to improve the quality of services and maintain the work culture.

Talking about ‘work culture’, he said the incumbent government is trying hard to improve the work culture in government offices. The government sanctioned several facilities for the employees. It is important the

Dr Saha, however, exuded confidence and said the government employees are also sons and daughters of the State. The purpose of the visit is to make them understand the ‘Sushasan’ initiative of the government.

Commenting on punitive actions against the absent staff, Dr Saha said it is important to know as to why they were absent. It may be they had some genuine issues or may be some of them were in fields. Here we need ‘monitoring’ to improve the condition.

Later taking to social media, Dr Saha said, “As the Minister in charge of the PWD, I visited its Netaji Chaumuhani Office in Agartala. I talked to the employees and officials present about the nature of their works.

Maintaining the work culture of the employees is essential to implement the State Government's 'Prati Ghore Sushasan’ (Good governance in every House) programme. We seek the cooperation of all levels of employees for this purpose”.
