More than 630 kg ganja seized in 2 days in Tripura, one arrested
Even as the Corona threat is looming large over the threat and number of positive cases is mounting in Tripura, drug traffickers are busy in stockpiling drugs and narcotics including ganja and smuggle those across the border.
Tripura Government is working hard in meeting the emerging challenges – however, the security establishments are relentlessly keeping a tight vigil and are continuing operations against the drug traffickers even during Covid pandemic situation. During last two days, security personnel seized around 637kg dry ganja and arrested one person.
After BSF seized 460 kg dry ganja on April 30, Tripura Police along with TSR jawans dug out 177 kg dry ganja from a house at North Kalamchoura Thanamura under Kalamchoura PS at the early hours of Saturday morning and arrested one person.
A large posse of Police and TSR jawans led by OC of Kalamchoura PS, Bishnupada Bhowmik raided the house of one Sanjoy Barman and dug out six drums containing a total of 177kg dry ganja. Police arrested Sanjoy Barman under NDPS and produced him before the local Court today and the Court sent the accused in 5-day Police remand.
Earlier, On specific intelligence input of Field ‘G’ Team BSF Gokulnagar, a joint operation party of 74 Battalion BSF and DRI Agartala seized 460 kg of dry Ganja worth Rs. 69 lakh on 30 April 2021. The huge cache of ganja was concealed in forested land of PS Kalamchoura Sonamura Sub-division under Sepahijala district. The BSF team was led by Sanjay Kumar, Deputy Commandant besides K.C. Poonia, DC (G) was also present during the entire operation.
74 Bn BSF is dominating the AOR effectively and will not allow the smugglers and drug traffickers to fulfil their nefarious design. All such cache will be busted in the AOR and the smugglers will be put behind the bar as the law enforcement authority and civil administration are working in sync with BSF, a BSF press release said.
