NIT Agartala is organizing an International Workshop on ‘Advanced Seismology, Seismic Hazards and Earthquake Engineering (ASSHEE-2020): Theory, Simulations and Observations’.
The first part was organized at the NIT Agartala campus itself last year. But, this year, the workshop is being conducted through a webinar following the COVID19 pandemic.
An official release said, the beginning of ASSHEE 2020 was marked by an inaugural function decorated with some eminent personalities working in the related fields. Dr. H.K. Sharma, Director of NIT Agartala and Chief Patron of ASSHEE-2020, welcomed Padma Shri Prof. Harsh K. Gupta, a world-renowned seismologist and President of Geological Society of India as the Chief Guest.
Dr. Ruben Tatevossian who is the vice president of ASC and also the head of Seismology Lab in the Institute of Physics of Earth, Moscow was deemed as the Guest of Honour.
Dr. Sima Ghosh, Head of the Civil Engineering Department at NIT Agartala and Prof. J. R. Kayal, a renowned Geophysicist worldwide and Retd. Deputy Director of Geological Survey of India served as the Convener and Co-convener respectively. Dr. Richi P. Sharma, the Organizing Patron of ASSHEE-2020 motivated the students with his inspiring speech addressed to the audience. The first day was highly fruitful according to the participants as Prof. Harsh K. Gupta and Dr. Debarghya Chakraborty delivered their valuable lectures in a live stream through the official YouTube channel of NITA.
The on-going event registered a huge response from the students, industrial professionals and scientists from all around.
There was no fee included getting a higher reach of participants. The organizing committee consisting of student members both from undergraduate and Post-Graduate courses along with the faculty members have high hopes for this educational event. The workshop will continue till December 16 next.
