Northeast Youth Festival in Tripura: Participants join in trekking, kayaking activities

A total of 35 participants, including 21 young women and 16 young men from eight states, took part in a trekking expedition and the water sport kayaking at the State Adventure Institute located in Melaghar on the third day of the Northeast Youth Festival on Tuesday.

The adventure program was attended by Melaghar Municipality Chairperson Anamika Ghosh Roy Pal, Ward No. 4 Councilor Gopal Ghosh, Melaghar Deputy Collector Anish Debnath, Jampuijala Youth Program Officer Hari Kumar Debbarma and others.

The program was officiated by Sub-divisional Sports Officer Madhusudan Debbarma.

The young men and women from different states trekked and crossed different paths in the area. In addition, the young men and women from other states enjoyed kayaking. The program was organized beautifully and successfully under the leadership of the department's sports teacher and mountaineer Pranab Akhand and with the cooperation of local sports teachers and youth social workers. The Joint Secretary of the Sub-divisional School Sports Board, Abu Taher Majumder, thanked everyone for the successful completion of the adventure program of the Youth Festival.

Meanwhile, Youth Affairs and Sports Department Minister Tinku Roy announced at a press conference today that the closing ceremony and prize distribution ceremony of the 7th North East Youth Festival would be held at Swami Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala on Thursday.   

Roy also announced that apart from the prize distribution ceremony, various cultural programs would be organized tomorrow. Famous singer Shaan (Shantanu Mukherjee) will also perform at the event. In addition, artists from the state and outside the state will perform various cultural programs.

The minister said that the event including Shaan's musical programme would be open to all. There will be a special parking arrangement to avoid traffic congestion in the city. For the spectators coming from South Tripura district to watch the event, there will be a facility to park vehicles at Umakanta and Nagerjala bus stands. For those coming from North Tripura, there will be a facility to park vehicles at the Kshudiram Bose School ground adjacent to Jail Road. People coming from Khowai, Kamalpur, Kailashahar and Dhalai can park their vehicles at Radha Nagar bus stand. The Sports Minister appealed to everyone to cooperate to make the festival a success tomorrow.

Also present at the press conference were Youth Affairs and Sports Department Secretary Dr. PK Chakraborty and Sports Department Director SB Nath.
