Not a threat, but an attempt to rebuild people's confidence: Tripura CM says about his remark on media

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb talked about his remark on media which drew sharp criticisms and in an unambigious manner, he told that his remarks were not a 'threat' but an attempt to rebuild confidence of people relating to Covid19 treatment in Tripura.  

While holding discussion with the representatives of various electronic media houses on Tuesday, the Chief Minister referred to his speech that invited huge criticism and said he wanted to say that being the guardian of 37 lakhs people, he would not pardon if any media misguides people at this crucial juncture in the battle against Covid19 pandemic.

“Constructive criticism is always welcomed,” he said while seeking cooperation from media in the fight against COVID19. “After an assessment, we found that the people had started suffering from fear and distress following the reports published by a section of media.

Such reports had misguided the people to a great extent. Even, a good number of people including many serious patients in home isolation were ignoring to visit hospitals or Covid Care Centres,” Deb told the media representatives, which –the delay to take CCC support ultimately -according to him, resulted in even to deaths.

“It’s a disaster. We are trying our best to save lives of people by utilizing the existing infrastructure. Media has the right to highlight faults in the part of the government. But, if any media spreads misinformation and misguides people, it is not acceptable at any situation,” he said.

“We were proceeding with an aggressive mindset as well as strengthening the department. We shall present all such things before the High Court of Tripura. The people of Tripura will have a clear picture,” the Chief Minister said while echoing that his sole intention was to ‘rebuild confidence among the people’. He also added that Tripura would definitely register win over novel coronavirus with cooperation of all.
