Opposition leaders of Tripura denounce Union Budget

Opposition party leaders of Tripura criticised the Union Budget that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented in the Parliament on Tuesday.

 

The main Opposition Party in Tripura, CPM leaders slammed the Budget proposals and termed it ‘Anti-people’ Budget. Echoing the statement of Party’s general secretary Sitaram Yechury, CPM leaders maintained that the Budget proposals were ‘cruel assault on people’s livelihood’.

 

Reacting on the Budget proposal, State secretary of CPM Jitendra Chowdhury alleged the Budget ‘unrealistic’.  He also said the Budget did not address the basic issues like inflation, unemployment etc. The CPM leaders also criticized the government for not giving any tax benefits to middle class families.

 

The Tripura Pradesh Congress also came down heavily and denounced the Budget. State Congress Chief Birajit Sinha claimed the Budget proposals will help the rich people to become richer while the poor will suffer more.  Sinha strongly condemned the proposal of slashing the allocation of MGNREGA. He said the decision will affect the poor people of the country.  

 

In this connection, Sinha also underscored that several key subsidies including subsidy on Food, Petroleum and Fertilisers etc were reduced. He also claimed that the Budget has failed to announce any step to address the unabated price rise of essential goods.

 

Continuing his criticism, Sinha claimed the no tax relief measures were announced for the benefit of tax-payers – also no relief on Indirect Tax side.

 

Referring to He said the Budget has failed to provide any direction in combating unabated price rise. Sinha also mentioned cut in allocation for MGNREGA and different subsidies.

 

Trinamool leader of Tripura, Subal Bhowmik also criticized the Budget and alleged the Budget did not mention any concrete measure to overcome the unemployment issue.
