Partition Horrors Remembrance Day : Our culture, heritage also been divided due to partition, says Tripura CM
In 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon commemorating Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on 14th August of every year so that the present generation does not forget the terrifying history of despair caused due to partition.
The partition of a united India not only resulted in geographical division but also division of our humanity, culture and heritage. So human civilization has been divided as well. Its repercussions had to be mostly faced by the people of Punjab and Bengal, commented Tripura's Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha at Partition Horrors Remembrance Day programme organized at Rabindra Bhawan on Monday.
The Chief Minister in the programme said, Mahatma Gandhi never wanted the country's division. Many Muslim, Sikh or other leaders never wanted the country to be divided. People had to suffer huge losses and despair due to the partition. The aim of conducting today’s programme is to bring forth the tale of the losses and despair to the next generation.
The Chief Minister also said, lakhs and lakhs of people had to take refuge in other regions due to the partition. When we look back at the time of partition, we could understand how much the people might have suffered. We must not forget their pain and anguish.

The Chief Minister said, the effects of the partition linger till date. Amongst all this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working to establish the nation as the best in the world. We too desire to take our country towards further progress.
Social Welfare & Social Education Minister Tinku Roy said, we can generate public awareness about partition through government programme. As a result, the new generation will be benefitted.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma in the programme said, the partition is a scandalous chapter of human history, which is why this day is being commemorated. He said, development, progress and peace do not come from partition.
Tripura also has been divided due to the partition. It is also the day to remember those who suffered during the Tripura partition.
Vice Chancellor of MBB University Satyadeo Podder and Senior Educationist Jagadish Chowdhury also spoke on the occasion. Welcome speech was delivered by Secretary of the Information & Cultural Affairs Department Dr. P. K. Chakraborty.
The Prime Minister's video message was shown in the programme. Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha inaugurated an exhibition on partition-related photos at the premises of Rabindra Bhawan. Later, a rally roamed around the city.
