Reang Community of Tripura is one of 75 communities categorized as Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). These PVTGs continue to face vulnerability in social, economic and educational fields, said Minister of Tribal Welfare (TRP & PTG) of Tripura Sukla Charan Noatia in Agartala on Friday.
Speaking to the media, Noatia said, the Union Government approved Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) with total outlay of Rs.24,104 crore (Central Share: Rs.15,336 crore and State Share: Rs.8,768 crore) to focus on 11 critical interventions through 9 line Ministries. The Prime Minister announced the Abhiyan on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas from Khunti.
He said, “The 11 key interventions aligned with the respective ministries included. Provision of pucca houses by RD Department, electricity in all Reang houses, piped water supply/community water supply to all Reang households by the DWS Department, better road connectivity in Reang community areas, better medical facilities by the Health Department, advanced system of education for the tribal community by the Education Department, construction of Anganwadi centers, construction of multi-purpose centers, Setting up of the Dhan Vikas Kendras by Ministry of Tribal Affairs, and better telecommunication facilities by the Department of Telecom communication are the interventions. A nationwide awareness/IEC campaign is also planned to create awareness about the mission and its benefits.
The campaign will include saturation camps/health camps for convenient enrollment in interventions such as Aadhaar cards, Ayushman cards, Kisan Credit Cards, and sanitation check-ups, which will be conducted through IEC camps, Noatia added.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs is working with the concerned departments to take necessary measures such as beneficiary saturation camps, outreach programs, etc. The PM-JANMAN Mission provides a great opportunity for the socio-economic development of the Reang community, which will also lead to the overall state development, he said.
A PIB press release read, “As announced in the Budget Speech 2023-24, “to improve socio-economic conditions of the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), Pradhan Mantri PVTG of Development Mission will be launched. This will saturate PVTG households and habitations with basic facilities such as safe housing, clean drinking water and sanitation, improved access to education, health and nutrition, road and telecom connectivity, and sustainable livelihood opportunities. Rs.15,000 crore will be available to implement the Mission in the next three years under the Development Action Plan for the Scheduled Tribes (DAPST).”
