Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Tripura on January 4 next and inaugurate a slew of projects including the new terminal of Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport, Agartala and Vidyajyoti School Scheme.

Addressing a programme on Saturday, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said the Prime Minister would be arriving Agartala to inaugurate the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) of MBB Airport. The NITB was developed at a cost of Rs. 3400 crore.

“PMO has confirmed the visit of the Prime Minister to Tripura to dedicate the new terminal building of MBB Airport, second busiest Airports of the Northeast,” Deb told a gathering at Mariam Nagar Church premise on the occasion of Christmas today.

The new airport terminal will boost the state’s air connectivity along with increasing the passenger handling capacity.

Chief Secretary Kumar Alok on Saturday tweeted that he had briefed the Prime Minister about the projects to be launched during his visit to Tripura.

Earlier this month, a top official of the Airport Authority of India visited the state to review the work progress at the new terminal building and held a meeting with the officials concerned.

The new terminal building has been built across an area of about 30,000 square meters. There will be 20 check-in counters. Various handicrafts from Tripura are being used in the construction of the new terminal. The new terminal has the capacity to handle 1200 passengers including international travelers per day.

Meanwhile, Vidyajyoti Schools under the ‘Mission 100’ scheme is one of the important projects launched by the State government. Under this project, 100 Schools will be converted in CBSE schools for ensuring quality education to students and building a strong future generation and new Tripura.
