Tom Moody, the former Australian cricketer known for his astute analysis, is highly optimistic about Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) explosive batsman Rinku Singh earning a well-deserved spot in India’s squad for the much-anticipated 2024 T20 World Cup if he maintains his current impressive form.

Rinku Singh has undoubtedly emerged as one of the most reliable finishers in the thrilling Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. Displaying remarkable skill and composure with the bat, he played a pivotal role in securing critical victories for KKR. The left-handed dynamo concluded the exhilarating campaign with an impressive tally of 474 runs, boasting a sensational strike rate of 149.5 and an astonishing average of 59.25, truly leaving a lasting impression on both fans and experts alike.

In the exhilarating match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Saturday, Rinku once again showcased his ability to turn the tide with his explosive batting. Despite the KKR falling agonizingly short of victory by a solitary run, Rinku’s unbeaten knock of 67 off just 33 deliveries, marked his fourth scintillating half-century of the season. His incredible display of power-hitting, which included plundering 16 runs off the last three balls, came close to achieving the impossible and left fans in awe of his talent.

Reflecting on Rinku’s impressive performance, Tom Moody shared his insights during an interview with ESPNCricinfo, stating, “Rinku possesses the necessary skills and exhibits a solid foundation in his game. It’s no coincidence that he has grabbed every opportunity presented to him, performing exceptionally well. With an impressive first-class cricket average of nearly 60, he has honed his skills through extensive experience in the longer format.”

Moody further emphasized the importance of composed and strategic thinking during high-pressure situations for proficient finishers in cricket, highlighting Rinku’s ability to thrive under such circumstances. “Rinku hasn’t emerged out of nowhere; he is an exceptional ball striker with a notable background. His technique, balance, and composure at the crease have been on full display, especially during pressure situations in other formats of the game,” Moody added.

One of the most notable attributes of Rinku’s game that Moody highlighted was his temperament, which plays a crucial role in the art of finishing matches. The best finishers in the game possess calculated and calm minds under pressure, and Rinku seems to embody these qualities. With his exceptional temperament and ability to rise to the occasion, he has shown immense potential to become one of the leading finishers in the international arena.

While acknowledging the significance of the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled for 2024, Moody emphasized that there is still a considerable distance to cover before the tournament. However, he firmly believes that if Rinku continues to perform at the same exceptional level, his place in the squad will be unquestionable. “Rinku is proving his ability to excel in the specialized role of a finisher. Additionally, he is an exceptional fielder. Although the T20 World Cup is still a fair distance away, unlike the upcoming 50-over World Cup scheduled for next year, Rinku is undoubtedly a strong contender,” stated Moody.

With upcoming IPL seasons providing Rinku with crucial opportunities to further display his exceptional form, there is growing anticipation among fans and experts alike that his consistent performances will secure him a place in the national squad for the prestigious 2024 T20 World Cup. As Rinku continues to make waves with his explosive batting and solidify his reputation as a match-winner, the dreams of representing his country on the world stage draw nearer. The cricketing world eagerly awaits his next stroke of brilliance, hoping it will solidify his position among India’s cricketing elite. (Edited)
