Russian President Vladimir Putin lauds PM Modi as 'Great Friend of Russia' and praises 'Make in India' initiative

Russian President Vladimir Putin hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a "great friend of Russia" and commended India's 'Make in India' initiative during an economic forum organized by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI).

Putin spoke highly of the impact the initiative has had on the Indian economy, stating that it would be beneficial to learn from its success.

Addressing the forum in Moscow on Thursday, Putin expressed the need for Russia to provide support tools for its companies to effectively market their products, particularly in light of the sanctions policies imposed by the West. He highlighted India as a model for developing local manufacturing capabilities and attracting foreign investment, crediting Indian leadership for creating an effective framework.

Putin emphasized the importance of enhancing the functionality and aesthetics of Russian products, stating that industrial and product design should be considered valuable assets for domestic business development.

Prime Minister Modi launched the 'Make in India' initiative in 2014 with the aim of promoting domestic production, manufacturing, and attracting investments. The initiative seeks to encourage companies to develop and manufacture products within the country.

The meeting between Putin and Modi marks their most recent interaction since their encounter on the sidelines of a regional security bloc summit in Uzbekistan back in September 2022.

This recognition from Putin further strengthens the bilateral ties between Russia and India, underscoring the mutual respect and cooperation between the two nations. (Edited)
