In an attempt to improve the sports sector, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha inaugurated a synthetic football turf at the Sudhanwa Debbarma Memorial High School playground in Jampuijala on Tuesday.
Notably, the State Government has accorded priority to the development of sports infrastructure to attract the youth of the State. With the prevailing drug menace in the State, the Government is pushing different types of sports and encouraging youths of the State to participate. The State already has several synthetic football turf and a synthetic track for athletes in Panisagar under the North Tripura. Today’s inauguration of the synthetic football turf is the continuation of the Government’s efforts to strengthen sports infrastructure.
Among others, Sports Minister Tinku Roy, MLA Biswajit Kaloi, Zilla Sabhadhipati of Sepahijala Supriya Das Dutta and secretary of the Sports Department Dr PK Chakraborty were also present in the programme.
In his inaugural speech, Dr Manik Saha said, “Proper training and advanced infrastructure are essential to guide the immense potential of the state's youth in the field of sports in the right direction”.
He said, considering this special aspect, the State Youth and Sports Department has constructed the Sudhanwa Debbarma Memorial Higher Secondary School's synthetic football turf under the Khelo India project at a cost of approximately Rs 5 crores.
Speaking on the occasion, Sports Minister Tinku Roy dubbed the synthetic turf as a significant milestone in the State’s sports arena. He exuded confidence that the synthetic field, constructed by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, would provide young people with modern training and a competitive environment while also encouraging the growth of football talent in the region.
