TCA Budget deadlock: Governing Body passes Vote-on-Account, backs forming Interim Committee

As the deadlock surrounding the Budget 2023-24 is lingering, Governing Body members of the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) passed the Vote-on-Accounts for three months to carry out TCA's routine activities. This was revealed by TCA president Tapan Lodh while addressing a press conference in Agartala on Monday.

He said, the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) convened a crucial meeting to address the ongoing impasse surrounding the organization's budget for the year 2023-24. Amid allegations of irregularities and corruption charges hindering the passage of the budget, TCA President Tapan Lodh expressed concerns about the emerging situation as not passing the Budget implies 'No Confidence on Office bearers.'

Highlighting the absence of specific guidelines in the TCA's constitution or manuals to tackle such a crisis, Lodh revealed that the Governing Body members gathered for a  meeting today and made crucial decisions.

Out of the 27 members in attendance, seven participated via video conferencing, while the Vice President and Treasurer were notably absent.

Controversies surrounding the execution of certain decisions propelled the TCA into legal action, leading to involvement with the High Court of Tripura. Lodh assured the association's cooperation with the ongoing investigation, expressing confidence that the truth would prevail.

Addressing the impasse over the budget indicating the 'No confidence on Office bearers', the Governing Body members proposed submitting a proposal to the Court-appointed Commissioner to conduct elections for a new Committee.

Besides, they suggested forming a temporary 3-member interim Committee under the TCA president to manage routine tasks until the election of the new committee. Moreover, a Vote-on-Accounts for three months was passed unanimously.

Amidst criticisms of mismanagement and accusations of corruption, Lodh acknowledged the challenges faced by the TCA, emphasizing that unity and collaborative efforts could pave the way for a more successful organization in the future.
