Teachers Urged to Support Student Participation in 6th India International Sarabhai Scientist Awards

A golden opportunity awaits aspiring scientists from Tripura, as DASA India NGO, inspired by the Department of Science and Technology’s Vigyan Prasar initiative and its VIPNET platform, prepares to host the 6th India International Sarabhai Student Scientist Award competition in 2025.

The announcement for the competition was made during a virtual Remembrance Day event on December 30, commemorating Dr. Vikram Sarabhai. The event featured prominent figures from NASA and ISRO, adding to its significance.

Speaking about the 6th India International Sarabhai Student Scientist Award competition in 2025, Anjan Banik, National Chairman of the National Council of Researcher Teacher Scientists India, extended an open invitation to students across the country. The first round of the competition, a science quiz, will take place on any Sunday between January and February 2025, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Notably, Anjan Banik, the first one from Tripura, received the prestigious National Award for Science and Technology Communication for 2022-23. Under his leadership, the competition aims to nurture young scientific talent and inspire the next generation of global innovators.

6th India International Sarabhai Student Scientist Award competition for 2025The virtual event also featured Dr. George A. Salazar, a distinguished NASA engineer with over 38 years of experience in human spaceflight missions at the Johnson Space Center in Texas, USA.

Dr. Salazar lauded the 6th India International Sarabhai Student Scientist Award initiative, calling it a pivotal step toward fostering a culture of scientific exploration and innovation.

“Programs like these are the need of the hour,” Dr. Salazar remarked. “They ensure that the legacy of visionaries like Dr. Sarabhai continues to inspire young minds, paving the way for groundbreaking advancements worldwide.”

Dr. Prabhakar Sharma, a veteran scientist from the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), ISRO’s parent institute, also urged teachers to encourage student participation in the competition, emphasizing its potential to ignite scientific curiosity.

With growing interests in Science and Space among the students of Tripura, the event will provide a platform for students to gain theoretical and hands-on practical knowledge about space and science, sources close to DASA India NGO opined.
