The Tripura Film and Television Institute (TFTI), an emblem of artistic and cultural pride for the state, celebrated the achievements of its graduating students for the academic year 2023-24 at a certificate distribution ceremony held at Nazrul Kala Kendra. Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, attending as chief guest, lauded the institution as a remarkable milestone, bringing professional media and film education to Tripura — an accomplishment that, he noted, was once unimaginable.
In his address, Chief Minister Saha highlighted that the establishment of TFTI was made possible through the determined efforts of the state government and invaluable collaboration with the renowned Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute in Kolkata. He emphasized that Tripura, with its rich cultural tapestry woven from various tribal and community traditions, holds vast untapped talent, and TFTI plays a crucial role in nurturing and showcasing this talent.
“Our youth, trained here, will carry forward the cultural, traditional, and artistic heritage of the state,” Saha said, expressing his gratitude to the faculty from the Satyajit Ray Institute for their mentorship and dedication to cultivating local talent.
The Chief Minister also outlined the institute’s plans for growth, revealing that TFTI currently offers seven short-term courses, with aspirations to expand into long-term diploma and degree programs. He noted that 90% of the course fees are subsidized by the state government, making quality film and television training accessible to a broader range of students.
Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty, Secretary of the Information and Culture Department, further elaborated on TFTI’s journey since its inauguration on November 28, 2022. Under the expert guidance of the Satyajit Ray Institute, TFTI now offers a variety of specialized courses, including Screen Acting, Film Appreciation, Production Management, News Anchoring and Reporting, Script Writing, Digital Editing, and Sound Recording. The institute is also preparing to introduce courses in Digital Cinematography and Film Direction. Plans for further improvement are underway, Dr. Chakraborty shared, with a dedicated consultant set to join the institute’s advisory team and a permanent location identified to house TFTI in the future.
Acting Director of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Samiran Dutta, also addressed the audience, expressing support for TFTI’s mission. The event was attended by other prominent figures, including Bimbisar Bhattacharya from the Information and Culture Department and Subrata Chakraborty, Vice-Chairman of the State-level Cultural Advisory Committee. The ceremony concluded with Chief Minister Saha presenting certificates to the graduating students, symbolizing both their hard work and the state’s commitment to nurturing talent in media and the arts.
