A large group of Tipra Motha supporters went on a rampage at the site of an under-construction Bio-Fertilizer factory at Makraibari under Amarpur sub-division in Tripura on Thursday.
The mob stormed in the site and damaged construction materials in a warehouse. They pulled down boundary of the site and workers’ shed as well as the police barrack.
As decided by the state government, construction of the Bio Fertilizer factory was undertaken at a 3-acre Government land at Makraibari. There was an objection from the locals from the very first day of the work as the locals claimed the land belongs to them and government took away their land for the proposed bio-fertilizer factory..
Earlier, the workers had to stop the construction works and leave the site multiple times owing to agitation by the local people.
The workers along with police went to the construction site two days ago, once again. Seeing the workers back, some of the local women raised objection and they also threatened of committing suicide. In such a situation, the police personnel felt helpless and left the site.
On Thursday, a rally was held at Makraibari in presence of Deputy CEM of TTAADC Animesh Debbarma, executive member Doli Reang and Bhavaranjan Reang.
All of a sudden, a large group of people, who were in the rally, entered the construction site and ran amok in the presence of police. The rampaging mob flattened the construction works.
Soon after the incident, site contractor Tapan Chakraborty lodged a complaint at Birganj police station.
When contacted, OC of Birganj police station Jayanta Das said that a complaint was received and police would take action as per the law.
