Tripura Arshia heads to Sri Lanka for Western Asia Youth and Junior Chess Championship

Young chess prodigy Arshia Das from Tripura is all set to embark on a journey to Sri Lanka, where she will be vying for top honors at the prestigious Western Asia Youth and Junior Chess Championship. The tournament, scheduled to take place in Colombo from July 7 to 22, will witness Arshia showcasing her exceptional chess skills against some of the brightest young minds from across the region.

Arshia, the sole female Candidate Master chess player from the Northeast, will be accompanied by her mother to Sri Lanka. In the Youth event, the state's pride will be competing in the Under-18 category, while the Junior event will see her battling it out in the Under-20 category.

Ahead of her participation in the dual tournaments, Arshia received a heartwarming gesture of support from the renowned Agartala based club, Egiye Chalo Sangha. In a special ceremony held on Wednesday, the club extended financial assistance to Arshia, demonstrating their unwavering faith in her potential.

Arshia-Sri-Lanka-Chess-EventClub Secretary Sumanta Gupta, along with other club members, conveyed their best wishes to Arshia, expressing their confidence in her ability to bring glory to the state.

The chess fraternity in Tripura is brimming with anticipation, eagerly awaiting Arshia's stellar performance on the international stage. Club Secretary Sumanta Gupta exuded optimism, firmly believing that Arshia will emerge victorious in both events.

It is noteworthy that the coveted Woman International Master norm awaits the champions of both tournaments. Additionally, the second and third-place finishers will have the distinction of being titled Woman FIDE Master.

Matrix Chess Academy coach Prasenjit Dutta also joined the chorus of well-wishers, extending his heartfelt greetings to Arshia and cheering her on as she embarks on this momentous endeavor.
