In an attempt to give further boost to Agri-sector, Tripura Chief Minister has announced on Thursday creation of ‘Agriculture Hub’ in West district. This announcement along with previous decision of providing subsidized loans to marginal farmers of the State is expected to propel growth of the Agri-sector in present crisis-ridden situation.
The Chief Minister said the state government already decided to provide subsidized loans to 50,000 marginal farmers. Besides, another plan has been initiated to identify and transform cultivable lands from Simna to Airport into ‘Agriculture Hub’.
He announced this after visiting various agriculture fields at Matai area under Brahmakunda panchayat under West District on Thursday.
During the visit, the Chief Minister heard about inspiring story of Bhavendra Debnath, a local farmer who started watermelon cultivation in Mulching method. He visited the cultivation and interacted with the farmer.
Hailing his efforts, Biplab Kumar Deb pointed out that digitization drive of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was helping the farmers learn about modern Agri techniques and facilities. This is helping innovative farmers take initiatives beyond the usual method and generate better earnings.
The Chief Minister said that Bhavendra had set an example that anyone may achieve success—no matter if he or she doesn’t own land or have higher education. He pointed out commitment and zeal of the Bhavendra and hoped that his achievement would inspire other farmers.
While encouraging others to take such initiative to achieve the goal of self-reliance, the Chief Minister said, “The state government has decided to provide subsidized loan from NABARD to 50,000 marginal farmers through Tripura Gramin Bank.” This move will help marginal and small farmers to attain self-reliance through agriculture.
As part of his visit, the Chief Minister also inspected a bamboo collection centre of Prasenjit Shyam at Kailsah Shyam Para at Simna.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Mohanpur Panchayat Samity chairman Reena Debbarma, vice-chairman Rakesh Deb, DM West Tripura Sailesh Kumar Yadav and other officials.
