Tripura CM flags off Orthodontic rally to create awareness for proper teeth alignment

Indian Orthodontic Society (IOS) in association with Indian Dental Association Tripura State branch, held an awareness rally in Agartala on Sunday.

The rally focused the need of Orthodontic treatment ( a speciality branch of dentistry ) and to generate awareness among public about danger of D2C/DIY online aligners. 

 

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha flagged off the rally in presence of Dr Srikrishna Chalasani president IOS, Dr Sridevi Padmanavan IOS secretary, Dr Partha Roy Choudhury president IDA Tripura State Branch, Dr Sajal Nath Secretary IDA Tripura State Branch along with huge number of Dental Surgeons from different parts of Tripura remained present at the programme.

 

It was the first ever Orthodontic rally in the State.

 

“As a part of the awareness, a Smile Rally was organized. The Smile Rally is a nationwide social initiative of the IOS to bring awareness to the public about Orthodontics and especially counter the threat to public dental health posed by direct to consumer aligner companies”, said Dr Srikrishna Chalasani president IOS.

 

Dr Sridevi Padmanavan, IOS secretary, said that oral cancer has been on the rise and constitutes about 40 percent of all forms of cancer in our country. Around 30 per cent of them stem from the use of tobacco. She also said that IDA organizes regular health talks, check-up camps.

 

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said that himself being in the field of Dental Surgery, Prof Dr. Manik Saha said the dream of setting up a Dental College in Tripura will also be fulfilled soon.

 

Dr Saha said if a child's teeth are not in proper alignment, it is the Orthodontists who correct the alignment.

 

Earlier, there were no orthodontist in Tripura and children with teeth alignment problem had to go to other states. As it involved huge expenses, most of the affected children and their families couldn't avail of the benefits of Orthodontic treatment, Dr Saha commented.

 

"Now, we have a couple of Orthodontists in Tripura who are providing services to the patients", he said.

 

In this connection Dr Saha also said the Tripura Govt is working to set up a Dental College in the State.
