Tripura CM urges media to remain vibrant, affirms zero tolerance towards attacks on journalists

If a person has the capability to do something good for journalism and contribute to the future, then why shouldn't we support that person's progress?, said Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday said urged the media to remain vibrant to effectively support the Government's initiatives of taking the State forward. He emphasized that developmental endeavors cannot be solely achieved by the Government; the media's role is crucial as it can connect with even the remotest individuals within the State.

The Chief Minister emphasized his Government’s zero-tolerance stance towards attacks on journalists as the incumbent government does not believe in the ‘Divide and Rule’ system introduced by the British.

Addressing the 2nd Convention of the Assembly of Journalists at Muktadhara Auditorium on Saturday, the Chief Minister stated that the state government can move Tripura forward only if journalists remain vibrant.

"If we believe that we can accomplish all the development work on our own, it's not feasible unless you all remain active.  During various periods, I have also participated in different protests, but without journalists, achieving results from these protests would not have been possible. They contribute to creating pressure on the ruling party," remarked Dr. Saha.

The Chief Minister said that if a person has the capability to do something good for journalism and contribute to the future, then why shouldn't we support that person's progress?

Dr. Saha mentioned, "People always desire competent individuals to progress. Relying solely on emotions might not be effective for all types of tasks. Journalists consistently highlight both the positives and negatives to hold the government accountable. The morning newspaper is eagerly anticipated by everyone. In today's new generation, news reaches us every second. We are also actively striving to provide advantages and well-being for journalists."

Speaking on the occasion, AoJ General Secretary Sanit Debroy drew the attention of the Chief towards the present situation of the Weekly and Little Magazines of the State.

In his speech, vice president of the AoJ Shekhar Datta hailed the government’s initiatives for improving the excellence of the media persons. He also pointed out that as the media houses in the State are dependent on Government advertisements, government officials need to keep a watchful eye on the distribution of advertisements so that no one is deprived of government's advertisements. Secretary Dr Biswendu Bhattacharjee welcomed the guests and participants.
