Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha made a clarion call urging teachers to raise awareness among students about the dangers of drug addiction and create mass awakening for a Nesha Mukt Tripura.
Speaking at the 'Chief Minister’s Annual State Awards for Academic Excellence-2022' ceremony at Rabindra Bhawan in Agartala, Dr Saha emphasized the important role teachers play in creating mass awareness against drugs.
The Chief Minister said, "The state government adopted a zero tolerance policy against drugs. In this context, the teachers have a major role to play to create a mass awakening among the students against drugs".
The objective of the ceremony is to encourage and motivate students to achieve better results and improve their career prospects, he said and reiterated government's commitment in providing quality education in the state.
A total of 202 students who achieved outstanding results in the Class X and Class XII board examinations of 2022 were awarded certificates and iPads during the ceremony.
Dr Saha highlighted that the results of students improved significantly in recent years.
The pass percentage rate for the Madhyamik examination rose from 52.25% in 2018 to 91.02% in 2022, and for the Higher Secondary examination, it rose from 70.58% in 2018 to 97.45% in 2022.
Moreover, Dr Saha pointed out that the pass percentage rate for indigenous students in both Madhyamik and HS Exams has increased significantly from 2018 to 2022.
For the Madhyamik examination, it increased from 37.30% in 2018 to 86.55% in 2022, while for the HS examination, it rose from 64.18% in 2018 to 96.53% in 2022.
The Chief Minister further stated that the state government is committed to developing infrastructure in the state to provide opportunities for higher education within the state. He mentioned that Law College, National Forensic Sciences University, Dental College, Engineering College, and other institutes of higher studies are already functional in the state.
Senior officials from the education department, as well as school students and teachers, were present at the ceremony.
According to the parents of the students, the Chief Minister's call to teachers to create awareness about drug addiction and his commitment to providing quality education in the state reflects the government's efforts to build a brighter future for the youth of Tripura.
