Tripura CM Vows to Improve Vidyajyoti Schools After Performance Dip

Tripura Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha chaired a review meeting on Monday at the Secretariat Conference Hall to address the decline in performance of Vidyajyoti Schools this year.

The review meeting came up amidst growing clamour by the opposition parties denouncing the much hyped Vidya Jyoti Mission of the ruling BJP government in Tripura.

Vidyajyoti Mission is a government initiative launched in 2021 that converted 125 schools to the CBSE curriculum with a focus on English-medium education.

While acknowledging the positive results in some schools, the Chief Minister expressed concern about the overall performance.

He emphasized the government's commitment to overcoming challenges and finding solutions.  “Success may not come readily, but by identifying and addressing problems, we can achieve our goals,” he stated.

The meeting highlighted a decrease in the pass percentage compared to the previous three years. Discussions focused on various factors contributing to this decline. The need for improved English language skills among students emerged as a key concern. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of proactive roles by principals and teachers to ensure students understand classroom instruction.

The review also addressed the need for stronger SMC (School Management Committee) involvement and targeted support for schools with particularly low pass rates.

Professor Saha announced plans to collaborate with CBSE experts through an exchange of views program. This initiative aims to leverage their expertise and develop strategies to improve Vidyajyoti Schools' performance. He also highlighted the potential benefits of the National Education Policy in enhancing the state's educational landscape.

The meeting included presentations by the Education Department's Special Secretary on the overall status of the Vidyajyoti Project and existing initiatives to address shortcomings. Additionally, teachers, professors, and district education officials participated in discussions on curriculum, teaching methods, and challenges faced by Vidyajyoti Schools.

The Chief Minister concluded the meeting by assuring that all suggestions and discussions will be analyzed to formulate a roadmap for improved performance in Vidyajyoti Schools moving forward.
