Tripura congress Chief Condemns BJP and BMS for bullying of Party supporters

Tripura Pradesh Congress president, Ashish Saha came down heavily on the ruling BJP for ‘hooliganism’ and intimidation on the Congress supporters ahead of the Panchayat Polls in the State.

Saha visited Dharmanagar in the North District on Friday for a series of organizational activities amidst rising political tensions in the area in the run-up to the August 8 three-tier Panchayat Polls in the State. As allegations of persecution against supporters of the Congress by the ruling BJP and BMS leaders came up, Saha went to meet the party activists today.

Tripura-Congress-Chief-DharmanagarSaha travelled to Baruakandi to meet with families who had reportedly faced persecution. During his visit, he strongly condemned the actions of the state BJP and BMS leaders, expressing solidarity with the affected families. He assured them that the Congress party stands firmly by their side during these challenging times.

The State Congress Chief then proceeded to conduct an organizational meeting with panchayat centres within the Jubaraj Nagar Assembly constituency. He emphasised the importance of unity and resilience among Congress members and strategized on how to counter the challenges posed by the ruling party effectively.

At the Congress Bhawan in Dharmanagar, Ashish Saha addressed a press conference, where he announced plans for further organizational meetings. These include a session with panchayats in the Kalachara RD Block of the Bagbasa Assembly constituency. He detailed the evening’s agenda, which involved two significant meetings: one with the panchayats of Kadamtala Block at Kadamtala Bazaar and another with the panchayats of Panisagar Block at Panisagar Bazaar.

During the press conference, Saha condemned the continuous hooliganism and physical and mental abuse inflicted upon Congress members by the ruling party. He asserted that the BJP has transformed the 2024 panchayat elections into a farce through their tactics of intimidation and violence. Despite these challenges, he affirmed the Congress party’s determination to field representatives in four blocks of North Tripura and to actively contest the elections.

Saha appealed for legal action against the ongoing abuse by the BMS and BJP leaders in the six village panchayat areas of Dharmanagar. He informed the media that a case was filed in the High Court relating to the emerging situation in the State.
