Tripura CPIM MLA Tapan Chakrborty bereaved, wife expired

Supriti Chakraborty, the wife of former Education minister and incumbent CPIM MLA Tapan Chakraborty, passed away in a private hospital in Agartala on Tuesday morning.

 

She was 65 years old and is survived by her husband, Tapan Chakraborty.

 

Supriti Chakraborty was suffering from multiple diseases for a prolonged period. She was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Agartala, but her physical condition was deteriorating. She breathed her last today morning.

CPIM Politburo member and Opposition leader Manik Sarkar and other CPM leaders including ex-Minister Manik De and Pabitra Kar paid their respects. Party leaders and workers extended condolences to Tapan Chakraborty.

 

Later her mortal remains were consigned to flames at Battala crematorium in the evening.  

 

 

AIKS recalls Birsa Munda

      

All India Krishak Sabha (AIKS) observed the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda at its Melarmath Office premises on Tuesday. Veteran leaders, Pabitar Kar, Moti Lal Sarkar and others were present.

 

Pabitra Kar said, Birsa Munda was a revolutionary and an eminent face of the Krishak agitation. He revolted against the British government demanding tribal’s rights on forest land.

“Birsa Munda studied in a Missionary School and got acquainted with English language there. He could understood the ploy of the British raj for depriving the tribals of their rights on the forest lands”, Kar said.

 

The AIKS leader also said, Birsa Munda’s father and other community leaders started agitation against the British government demanding land rights of tribals. Later Birsa Munda also joined the agitation which snowballed into a major rebellion against the mighty British Raj, Pabitra Kar said.

  

He opined the people of India have not forgotten the sacrifice of Birsa Munda who was poisoned to death in jail.
