Tripura : Dilapidated High School in Gandacherra Sparks Local Outrage Against Education Officials

The Dilapidated State of Tui-Chakma Girish Chandra Karbari Para High School in a remote village of Tripura and alleged Indifference of the State Education Department has sparked resentment among the local.

Gandacherra, a remote subdivision of Dhalai district in Tripura, continues to grapple with its "remote" label despite the current government's efforts to bridge the gap in development.

Dilapidated High School in GandacherraAlthough progress has been made, Gandacherra remains underdeveloped, particularly in its education sector. The condition is especially dire in hilly areas, where schools face neglect and lack basic infrastructure.

One glaring example is the Tui-Chakma Girish Chandra Karbari Para High School. Established in 1982 and upgraded to a higher secondary school in 2017, the institution remains in a state of disrepair.

According to Vijay Singh Chakma, the chairman of the school's SMC (School Management Committee), the school is plagued with numerous challenges.

Despite being a higher secondary school, it lacks subject-specific teachers for English, Bengali, and Civics. Currently, only six teachers are entrusted with educating around 500 students.

The school also suffers from a severe shortage of classrooms. Students are forced to study in old and crumbling structures donated decades ago. The classrooms are unsafe, with broken benches, loose doors and windows, and exposed electrical wires, posing a constant risk of accidents.

Despite repeated appeals to the sub divisional officer, BDO, and school inspector, no concrete action has allegedly been taken to address these issues.

Vijay Singh Chakma revealed that there was a proposal to construct a modern building for the school with World Bank assistance. However, this project has inexplicably been stalled for over a year.

Students have also voiced their frustrations, calling for urgent intervention to address the school's dire conditions and improve their learning environment.

Their plea underscores the urgent need for the education department to prioritize schools like Tui-Chakma Girish Chandra Karbari Para High School and ensure a brighter future for the region's youth.
