Tripura: Driver who tied a puppy with his moving vehicle, dragged it to death, arrested

Subrata Nama, the Max driver, who tied a puppy with his Max vehicle and dragged it to an agonizing death, was arrested by the police on Wednesday. The helpless puppy was tied with his moving Max Vehicle (TR-03 3731) on the Agartala-Sabroom NH in Tripura on Monday.

An animal lover Vishal Singh noticed this at Pilak under South Tripura. Singh while taking the video of moving Max vehicle dragging the puppy overtook the Max and stopped the vehicle. When asked about his such brutal action, the driver told Singh – “It’s my wish” and before Singh could react, the driver ran away at a high speed.  

The incident came to the fore after a video footage of the barbaric incident hit social media platform and went viral on Tuesday. Shocked after viewing the video, Dr Ranabir Roy, an eminent Agartala-based Dental Surgeon, lodged an FIR with the West Police Station in Agartala on Tuesday. Expressing shock, concerned citizens of the State, animal lovers and NGOs all came together to demand justice for the helpless puppy and stern punitive action against the Max driver. In social media, netizens burst into anger and created huge hue and cry demanding actions against the driver.  

Sharply reacting to the incident, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha directed the Police apprehend the erratic driver. Animal Resources Development Minister of Tripura Sudhangshu Das also took a firm stand and condemned the act.

An Agartala based NGO for Animal welfare ‘Pawsome’ also lodged a complaint with Manubazar Police Station while another NGO, ‘Sabroom Four Paws’ also raised serious concern and demanded against the driver.

And, Police also reacted promptly and arrested the accused driver Subrata Nama. SI Mahim Debbarma of Manubazar Police Station arrested him. The Max vehicle was also seized.

Dr Manik Saha took to Twitter to announce the arrest of the accused and the seizure of the vehicle, adding that the police are taking further legal action against the culprit.
