The Tripura government has pledged to enhance power supply reliability and efficiency across the state through a multi-pronged approach. A high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha in Agartala on Monday underscored the government’s commitment to improving electricity infrastructure and services.
To address the growing power demand and ensure uninterrupted supply, the state is actively implementing various central and state government schemes. The Chief Minister emphasized the need to expedite the replacement of outdated power transmission lines, which are susceptible to breakdowns and power losses.
A key focus of the meeting was to optimize power distribution. To balance the load on transformers and prevent frequent outages, the government will launch a public awareness campaign about the judicious use of air conditioners. Regular maintenance and repair of transformers will also be prioritized.
The state is committed to harnessing renewable energy sources, particularly solar power. The government aims to encourage both private and public institutions to adopt solar energy systems to reduce dependence on conventional power sources.
To improve revenue collection, the Power Department of Tripura has been directed to intensify bill collection efforts, including the possibility of conducting special camps in all districts. The department has also been instructed to promptly address consumer complaints through the 1912 helpline.
Power Minister of Tripura Ratan Lal Nath highlighted the importance of timely bill payments and urged strict action against electricity theft.
The Power Department officials briefed the Chief Minister on ongoing projects, including the establishment of a new 132 KV sub-station at Bishramganj under the North Eastern Council (NEC) scheme and the upgradation of the 132/33 KV sub-station at Bodhajangnagar under the Prime Minister’s Gati Shakti initiative. Moreover, the department is implementing the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, which involves the replacement of old power lines with underground cables, installing smart meters, and other infrastructure upgrades.
The state government is also seeking financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank to strengthen the state’s power grid further.
Chief Secretary J. K. Sinha, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty, and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that these initiatives will significantly improve the power supply situation in Tripura and enhance the overall quality of life for the people.
