Tripura govt eyeing to create Medical Hub around AGMC, says CM

The state government is trying to create a medical hub around Agartala Government Medical College. A dental college is also going to start in the state very soon. A delegation of the Dental Council of India visited the state on  September 24, 2022 for this purpose. Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha said at the programme organized at KLS Auditorium on the occasion of the 18th Foundation Anniversary of Agartala Government Medical College on Sunday (September 25).

The Chief Minister said Agartala Government Medical College is the main medical service centre of the state. Agartala Government Medical College cannot be underestimated in any part. The state government has taken various initiatives for the development of this college. Many important medical services are being provided in this college hospital. But it is not properly propagated to the people.

Dr. Saha said Agartala Government Medical College can be developed as an art of excellence and students, teachers and all concerned should take responsibility.

Addressing the students, Chief Minister said it is not enough to be only a bookworm, students must establish themselves as an all-rounder. He said doctors are remembered with respect in society. They are the ones who issue birth and death certificates of people.

Chief Minister said in our state now we are getting better quality treatment. We are now moving towards super specialities. Medical services have been expanded in many areas. Chief Minister urged the next generation of doctors to work with a sense of responsibility. In his speech, the Chief Minister also mentioned the responsibilities of non-medical staff associated with medical services. Chief Minister wished Agartala Government Medical College further growth and urged them to work hand in hand with the government. 

Health Secretary, Dr. Debashis Basu, Director of Medical Education Dr. Chinmoy Biswas, Medical Superintendent of GBP Hospital Dr. Sanjib Debbarma, Principal of Agartala Government Medical College, Manjushree Roy spoke at the programme among others. The Chairman of the organizing committee Dr.Tapan Majumdar gave the welcome speech. Merit awards were given to meritorious students of different departments in the programme. AGMC students performed cultural items. It should be noted that Agartala Government Medical College was established on 1st August 2005.
