The Government of Tripura has imposed restrictions on the sale of petrol and diesel as heavy rains and landslides in Assam and the other North Eastern States have cut off rail and road communication with Tripura.

Tripura-Govt-restrictions-petrol-diesel-saleIn view of the disruption in the railway line near Badarpur and road traffic movement in NH-44, the supply of Petroleum Oil Products (POL) in the State has been affected, a government notification mentioned.

In an attempt to prevent a petrol and diesel crisis in the State, Additional Secretary to the state government Tapan Kumar Das issued a notification on Tuesday and imposed restrictions on the sale of such products for two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers.

As per the notification, outlets will be allowed to sell petrol and diesel to two-wheelers of maximum Rs 200 per vehicle while for three wheelers it has been fixed at Rs 300 per vehicle and Rs 1000 per vehicle for the four wheelers. The restriction has come into effect from May 17 and will continue until further order.

Moreover, during the period of such restrictions, outlets are strictly prohibited to sell petrol and diesel to their consumers in containers of any form.

As the report of the sale restrictions came to the public domain, long queues were observed in city petrol pumps. Mostly, two-wheelers and three-wheelers made a beeline in the petrol pumps.

Meantime, in a press release, N.F. Railway said it is trying to speed up the restoration work by arranging materials from various sources including far-flung areas. Once the weather becomes conducive the restoration work is expected to gain momentum. Restoration works in nearly 12 locations have already been completed.
