Tripura Judokas added three more medals to its tally on Sunday at the Khelo India Women's League Judo tournament held in Shillong. Among these, Indrani Das clinched the gold medal in the Cadet category of the 40kg division. In the same category, Uma Begum secured a silver medal, while Akanksha Ghosh won a bronze medal in the 44kg division.
Maitri Sarkar, despite a valiant effort, lost in the semifinals. This caused Tripura to miss out on another medal.
In two days, Tripura Judokas bagged total six medals, including two gold Medals and two Silver and Bronze medals each.
All three medalists are students of the Vivekananda Judo Center in Udaipur under the Gomati District of Tripura. Their coach, Mihir Shil, shared this news and expressed confidence in winning more medals in the future. A total of nine members from Tripura participated in the tournament. The junior category matches will be held on Monday.
It is worth mentioning that on the first day, Tania Das had won the first gold medal for Tripura while Priyanka Das and Shrabanti Debnath had secured silver and bronze medals, respectively, all in the junior category.
The tournament started on Saturday and that day, Tania Das clinched the gold medal in the 44 kg category at the Khelo India Women’s League Judo tournament on Saturday. The tournament witnessed a stellar performance by the young judoka.
Adding to the state’s medal tally, Priyanka Das secured a silver medal in the 32 kg category while Shrabanti Debnath bagged a bronze in the 40 kg category.
Tania’s gold medal win is a demonstration of her consistent brilliance in the sport. She had previously stunned everyone by winning four gold medals in the same tournament last year.
Expressing delight at the team’s performance, their coach, Mihir Shil, said, “We are thrilled with the results. The girls have worked tirelessly, and their hard work has paid off. We are hopeful of similar success in future tournaments.”
