Tripura News: 2 held in sensational couple murder case, One suspect commits suicide

One of the accused persons in sensational couple murder case in Tripura committed suicide by hanging self from a treehis hanging body was found on Thursday. Meanwhile, Police managed to arrest two persons while one of them obtained a conditional bail from the Court and the other one was sent to 5-day Police remand.

On the night of July 20 last, a couple - Bandhan Munda aka Bhushan (45) and his wife Mukutmani Munda – was killed at Murichhara Iron bridge area under Manaichhari in Khowai. Locals found their bodies on the next day morning lying naked.

On information, Police along with Police dog-squad and Forensic Team reached the spot and started an investigation. Khowai Police managed to arrest Ratan Ojha and Dilu Orang. When produced before the Court, Ratan Ojha obtained a conditional bail and Dilu Orang was sent to Police remand.

Upon interrogation, the accused persons revealed two more names to Police in connection with the murder. Accordingly, Police went to pick up the suspected persons last night. While Police were successful in detaining one of the accused persons, the other one, Sitesh Debbarma was not found at his home. He absconded before Police had reached.

Today, Police received information that Sitesh Debbarma committed suicide by hanging himself in a tree near his residence. Later, Police recovered his body and sent for an autopsy.

Primary investigation revealed the couple was returning from Ratan Ojha’s house at around 10 pm on July 20 after attending an invitation. It appears that Dilu Orang and Sitesh Debbarma attacked the couple at Murichhara iron bridge area. They slashed the couple with dau (machete). Both, Orang and Debbarma are guards of nearby Rubber plantation.

The reason behind killing is yet to be ascertained. Police sources said, after obtaining the post mortem report, it would be possible to know as to whether Mukutmani Munda was raped or not.

Concerned Police officers are hopeful that 5-day long interrogation of Dilu Orang will reveal the motive behind the murder.
