Tripura has registered a record COVID19 surge in the past 24 hours—as many as 761 positive persons tested Covid positive while 10 patients succumbed to the deadly virus. However, 292 patients recovered during the last 24 hours.
The figures are so far highest in the second wave of COVID19. With this massive surge, the number of active cases now stands 4,561 while the total number of deaths jumped to 438. The cumulative total of patients recovered stands at 35,756.
As per the official report, out of the total 761 positive cases detected in the past 24 hours, the West Tripura district has reported 446 cases alone. South district registered 103 positive cases followed by Unakoti with 60 positive cases. North and Sepahijala districted recorded 54 and 52 cases respectively. Gomati and Khowai districts registered 24 and 14 cases respectively. Dhalai district recorded 8 positive cases.
The Official report also mentioned Covid19 positivity rate stands at 5.17 percent. The recovery rate and Fatality rate stand at 87.73 percent and 1.07 percent respectively.
Earlier in a press conference, Tripura Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath said, "On May 14 and 15 last, a survey was conducted involving as much as 68,656 households under the Agartala Municipal Corporation areas. Among them, a total of 1,181 tests were done to the people who were found symptomatic, out of which 251 samples were detected positive."
Nath, however, said that the situation was still under control and it could be managed if people responsibly adhere to the restrictions and safety norms.
In view of growing Covid cases, the administration has announced Corona Curfew in Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) area w.e.f from 5 am May 17, 2021. Besides, Panisagar Nagar Panchayat, Kailashahar Municipal Council, Udaipur Municipal Council, Bishalgarh Municipal Council, Amarpur Nagar Panchayat, Ranir Bazar Panchayat, Nagichhera, and BSF Para have been announced as Containment Zones.
