Agartala Press Club held a mega Covid19 vaccination drive at the Club premises on Friday in which a total of 766 persons associated with different media houses belonging to 18-44 years’ group were inoculated.
Notably, Agartala Press Club organized similar vaccination camps for elders as well as for people of age group 45+ years. In all the camps, along with common people, media persons and their family members were benefitted.
However, in the present context, while Gen-X beneficiaries are queuing up for a jab and Government facilities are over burden, holding such a camp by Agartala Press Club for media persons and staff received a big applause.
Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath visited the camp and said the state government was focusing on a three-prong strategy to tackle the Covid 19 situation—testing, appropriate behaviour and aggressive vaccination. Speaking to the media while visiting Agartala Press Club’s special vaccination camp, Nath Said, “Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has already said that the journalists are frontline warriors. Accordingly, it was decided that a special camp would be held in Agartala Press Club which is being held today. There are plans to inoculate not less than 700 journalists and press fraternity people”.
According to Nath, the journalists have a big role to play in this time of pandemic. Those who will be missed out of the purview of the drive shall be vaccinated in a separate vaccination drive. Nath, however, accepted the fact that there were vaccine shortages in almost every state but also maintained that the state had ramped up its vaccination drive and 75,000 vaccines reached Tripura for the age group of 45 to 60 years of age.
Speaking to media, Agartala Press Club secretary Pranab Sarkar said, “A total of 766 journalists, photojournalists and news office workers had been administered the vaccine doses. This was for the third time a vaccination camp organized in Agartala Press Club”.
Apart from Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Principal secretary health JK Sinha, director ICA department Ratan Biswas, President Agartala Press Club Subal Kumar Dey, Vice-president Arun Nath and Secretary Pranab Sarkar remained present.
