Tripura News: Amidst Covid scare, Independence Day celebrated in State

For a second year in a row, amidst Covid scare, Independence Day was celebrated In Tripura. While State-level celebration was held at Assam Rifles ground in Agartala, sub-divisional celebrations were organized in all of the eight districts in State.

Apart from Government programmes, political parties, social organizations and clubs also observed the Day with solemnity in the State and the West District.

In South District, the Day was celebrated with due respect on Sunday. The National Flag was unfurled and parade was held at different places in the District.

State Revenue Minister NC Debbarma unfurled tricolor in Belonia under South Tripura district. He urged everyone to be united against separatist forces and step forward to protect the integrity and sovereignty of the country. In the programme, the Minister handed over awards to 21 students of South district who succeeded in different competitions. He also distributed prizes among the security personnel along with 13 health workers for special contributions and five Safai workers of Municipal Council.

Under the District, I-Day was also celebrated at Santirbazar in which MLA Pramod Reang unfurled the National flag. On the Day of Independence Day, Police personnel of Rangamura outpost under Belonia held a bold donation camp.

In Khowai district, the 75th Independence Day was celebrated by government institutions, press clubs and individuals on Sunday. Even as the Day was observed in a subdued mood due to Covid protocols, enthusiasm among the people was noticeable.

At Kalyanpur under Khowai district, tricolor was unfurled at the BDO office. Besides, newly established Kalyanpur Press Club members also unfurl the National Flag on this occasion. Tight security arrangements were made across the Kalyanpur sub-division.

On the Day of Independence, Khowai division of Indian Red Cross Society led by its chairman Hari Shankar Pal visited Ward No 1 in Kalyanpur where fire gutted three dwellings of one Suniti Debnath Das. The Team handed over daily use household items to her.

In Unakoti district, the Independence Day was with gaiety on Sunday. The main programme was held at Kailashahar. MLA Sudhangshu Das unfurled the tricolor there. At Kumarghat, MLA Bhagaban Das unfurled the National flag. Apart from the government and ruling party, the opposition parties including Leftists unfurled the National flag on this occasion.

In the North District, the Day was celebrated with solemnity on Sunday. Opposition parties also unfurled the flags separately. Several clubs and private institutions also observed the Day.

Despite Covid protocols, the Day was celebrated with enthusiasm across Gomati and Sepahijala District.
