In a daring incident, miscreants shot dead the secretary of Bharat Ratna Club Durga Prasanna Deb aka Vicky (35) at the Shalbagan area in Agartala on Tuesday evening. Police personnel started intensive man haunts to nab the culprits. The Bharat Ratna Club of Usha Bazaar is one of the well known clubs in the city.
Panic and tension prevailed in the Usha Bazaar area. However, adequate security arrangements were made to ensure peace.
Speaking to the media, the deceased’s wife held one Raju Barman and four others responsible for the killing. She demanded strong punitive actions.
it was learnt, he was shot and his body was lying on the road at the Shalbagan area. Later, he was rushed to a private hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The was shifted to GB Hospital and an autopsy would be conducted tomorrow.
Meantime, Police have started an investigation and are raiding different areas in search of the miscreants associated with the murder.
It is suspected that Vicky was shot dead in a gang rivalry.
Former MLA and BJP leader Dilip Das condemned the incident and demanded stern actions against the assailants.
While interacting with the media, Das said that he had a talk with Police Officers of the area and suggested the Police to go for all out man haunt to arrest the culprits. He also told the police to take action against the persons responsible for Vicky’s death without bothering about their political affiliations.
Notably, Usha Bazaar area, of late, witnessed several gun related incidents in past few years even as no one was fatally shot down.
