Tripura News: BJP-TIPRA clash leaves ten injured

Political clashes broke out between TIPRA motha and BJP supporters at Gaburcherra area under Hrishyamukh RD block in South Tripura District sparked tension in the region leaving more than ten party workers from both parties seriously injured on Saturday.

Sources said, the problem began after a group of TIPRA motha supporters launched an unprovoked attack on the local BJP party office in its desperate bid to wrest control over altogether eight ADC villages under the Gaburcherra village council. However, security arrangements had been tightened with the deployment of additional police and TSR Jawans in the area to avert the imminent trouble.

Local sources said, after the declaration of the TTAADC results, the local TIPRA motha supporters have become desperate to hold control over the village councils. Under Hrishyamukh Rural Development Block, there are eight ADC villages and both the BJP and TIPRA motha have an equally strong presence in the region. Local level leaders have well understood the fact that they need to hold control over the ADC villages to retain their strong bastions intact.

Amidst this cold tussle, the TIPRA motha supporters on Saturday launched an unprovoked attack on the local BJP Party office. The politically motivated mob, first ransacked the office, destroyed the important documents, and also vandalized the furniture. As many as five BJP workers sustained severe injuries during the attack.

Soon the news spread, a good number of BJP supporters gathered at the spot and began to retaliate resulting in violent confrontations between the political groups. The unruly mob vandalized a number of vehicles and a motorcycle parked beside the party office.

On knowing about the incident, a huge contingent of police and TSR led by additional police superintendent Ranadhir Debbarma and OC Belonia police station SrimtiKantaBardhan rushed to the spot and held control over the situation. Police also resorted to minor lathi-charge to disperse the mob.

BJP sources said, four BJP supporters sustained grievous injuries during the clashes and they were referred to Gomati district hospital for better treatment. Some TIPRA motha supporters were also injured but none of them were admitted to the hospital.
