Tripura News: Bru Sangrama raises 4 socio-religious demands

Reang organization, Bru Sangrama Matha has demanded recognition of mother tongue of the community as the Official language of the State. Besides, the organization has raised three other demands including demarcation of Tripura-Mizoram boundary by the concerned Governments.

Over 1000 Reang indigenous people held a rally at Birchandra Manu area on Tuesday and raised slogans in support of 4-point socio-religious demands.

Strongly rooting for highlighting its cultural and religious traditions, the Reang demanded its mother tongue, Kau Bru, to be recognized by the Government as the Official Language of the State.

Kau Bru is our mother tongue and the Government should recognize the Kau Bru. A recognition will help to preserve and enrich the language”, Reang leaders said.

On its religious traditions, Reang leaders said Goddess Sangrama is the main deity (Kul Devi) of the community. Every year, Reangs offer puja to the goddess with devotion and solemnity.

“Our second of the four demands include declaration of annual  puja Day of Sangrama Goddess as a government holiday in the State”, said general secretary of the organization, Kshanaram Reang while explaining the 4-point demands as raised by the Organization.

Continuing its demand pertaining to religious traditions, the Reang also demanded restoration of Shiva Temple at Jampui hills. There are some sorts of disputes as local Mizo raised objections of the restoration of the Temple at the hill citing their own religious feelings.

Besides, the Reangs have demanded proper demarcation of boundaries between Tripura and Mizoram.

“In some places, the boundary demarcation is not well defined. Proper demarcation in those places needs to be carried out without delay by the Governments”, Kshanaram Reang commented.

After the rally, Reang leaders also held deliberations on these four demands. Apart from Kshanaram Reang, vice president Birendra Reang, Anil Reang and other leaders were present during the discussion.  The leaders of the Bru Sangrama Matha threatened to intensify the agitation if the demands remained unfulfilled.

On another note, Kshanaram Reang said, like previous years, worship of the goddess Sangrama will be held on ‘New Moon’ in the month of Bhadra according to the Bengali calendar.
